These disciplines are based on fundamental research considering the key questions of the organization, stability and variation of genetic material, DNA replication and repair, the regulation of genome expression and evolution, and finally population genomics. The fundamental understanding of these mechanisms in all organisms enables a better grasp of their consequences in the evolutionary space. Genome comparison is key to understanding the complex links between genotype and phenotype, and to grasping the processes of evolution and biodiversity involved on a molecular level. Cognitive and applied perspectives (agronomy and medicine) are immensely important.

Missions

Each of Inserm’s theme-based institutes is led by a director, who is appointed by the Inserm CEO, and supported by experts who span the scientific fields concerned.
