Scientific Mobility Programs on the French Side
Hubert Curien Orchid Program
This program set up jointly by the National Science Council (NSC) and the French Institute in Taipei is designed to support new scientific and technological cooperation of excellence between French and Taiwanese research laboratories (research projects for a period of 2 years), as well as joint scientific workshops. Open to all scientific disciplines. Scientific excellence, complementarity of the teams and the active participation of young researchers in the exchanges – including doctoral or postdoctoral – are the main selection criteria.
ANR International Blanc Program
The NSC, which became the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) in 2014, signed an agreement in January 2007 with the French National Research Agency (ANR) – open to biology/health. It enables French teams to submit projects under the ANR's Generic Call for Proposals. The jointly selected projects are funded for a period of 3 to 4 years (allocation of funds by each party to its own nationals).
Franco-Taiwanese Science Foundation Prize
Created in 1999, it is awarded every year by the Academy of French Sciences and the Academia Sinica, to support high-quality projects jointly proposed by French and Taiwanese research teams. The prize is presented under the dome of the Institut de France, during a formal ceremony.
Scientific Mobility Programs on the Taiwanese Side
International Research-Intensive Centers of Excellence in Taiwan (I-RiCE) Program
The aim of the tripartite cooperation program - involving the Taiwanese National Council of Taiwanese Science , a partner Taiwanese University and a foreign institution - is to create centers of excellence in fundamental research and technologies of the future. It funds projects of between three and five years, subject however to annual renewal based on the performances of the previous year.
Taiwan International Graduate Program
This program gives foreign students the opportunity to take part in a Ph.D. program in interdisciplinary fields at the Academia Sinica or in partner universities.
Taiwan Scholarship Program
Every year the Taiwan Ministry of Education offers 5 scholarships for a total maximum period of 5 years to French students who want to pursue further education, in the Chinese or English language, at a university in Taiwan so they can prepare for a degree, Masters or Ph.D. Each scholarship consists of two separate grants: one to cover the tuition fees and one for living expenses.
Research & Practical Training Program in Taiwan
This program seeks to give French graduates in social sciences and the humanities the opportunity to acquire first-hand research or practical experience and to introduce students to the research and innovation system in Taiwan. Every year, thirty French students are selected. The successful students receive a grant of 50,000 Taiwanese dollars for an 8-week period so they can gain research or practical experience.
