Cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, cognitive disorders, and cancer: these are just a few of the health problems that physical activity can prevent or help treat. Which is why we’re always being told to be active, exercise, and limit our sedentary time as much as possible. But how and why does walking at a brisk pace, playing soccer, or following a rehabilitation exercise program have an effect on the body? The answer is by no means a simple one, as the effects are multiple, often interlinked, and “multitarget”. One thing is however certain: when it comes to the body, it’s a case of use it or lose it!
